Hi Doug,

I would think aside from the obvious of keeping your skin away from the
cutting tools, I have noticed that many people forget how dangerous
airborne saw dust can be. It is not only explosive, it can do a lot of
damage to your lungs. Especially rot resistant woods like cedar, the same
toxic natural compounds that prevent organisms from growing in wood are
also toxic to lung tissue. Wear a respirator when sanding or cutting wood,
especially with power tools.

The same is true for finishes and the sealant used on the fabric; the
solvents can be very damaging for your lungs and skin. All paints and
sealant should be treated with respect and only used with organic
respirators, skin protection, etc.

These can be insidious since the damage is cumulative, by the time you
realize it is a problem the damage has already been done.

Peter
