Peter--

The term "secondary stability" is a common one found in nautical works
throughout the world. In America it is frequently discussed in terms of
sailing craft where it relates to the angle of heel which, again, relates to
the ability to carry sail and be generally seaworthy. In discussions the
term secondary stability is frequently referred to as "reserve" stability
giving the terms "Initial Stability" and "Reserve Stability" prominence over
first and secondary stability.
