A 4 inch angle grinder is a compact electric tool, that looks like a
scaled down version of the big sanders/grinders/polishers used in autobody
shops. You can see them at any hardware, home center, or tool store or
catalog.

A 4 inch grinding wheel or sanding disk rotates perpendicular to the axis
of the shaft grip at high speed. They have a lot of power, and due to
their size, fit into a lot of areas and are easier to control than their
larger cousins.

Because of their popularity, there are a number of accessories available,
including a wheel/blade with chain saw teeth for roughing out hollows or
sculpting, and a number of biscuit joiner attachments.

There are also a number of smaller, pneumatic right angle grinders that
are available for anyone with a larger air compressor (9 cfm at 90 psi -
typically 6 HP or larger). The cheap ones are as low as $30; the better
ones are over $100. These are light, powerful, and work with 2 to 3 inch
diameter discs (such as the 3M 'Roloc' brand) typically sold through
autobody suppliers and some hardware stores.

Dremmel recently released a right angle attachment ($30) for their
electric, rotary tools. This is better for detail work, which might
include cleaning up roughed out hollows. I used to think of my Dremmel
tool as a 'toy', until I discovered how wonderful it was for tasks such as
feathering the edge of an epoxy/fiberglass tape seam on a stitch and glue
kayak, and cleaning out mortises on a cedar strip canoe. I'm sure that
there are many tasks on a baidarka where it would also come in handy.
