My experience comes from scarphing for wooden hulls and My experience is
that Epoxy is the best. The trick is to not clamp too much as a starved
joint will fail. Spring clamps work well and for sheet material such as ply
you lay a plank over the top of the joint and put some paint buckets on the
plank. Also helps to paint on a thin coat to each piece to wet it out and
then to use thickened glue in the joint.

And, Wax paper on your stuff keeps it from sticking.

Good luck

Scott

Subject: [baidarka] Glues

Hello -
I'm new to the list, and am about to start on a SOF when I decide which one,
and wanted to know about glue preferences for scarph joints. I've had good
success with the expanding foam waterproof glues (Gorilla, etc.) and
wondered if others agreed. I am not sure I trust epoxy after what I've read
about it in several boat building books. Another option is a resorcinol,
but they're harder to find.

Thanks
