Sirs,
It seems that many of us are trying to find the best material for a seat. I
have tried many different materials and arrangements. So far I am using 1/4
inch closed foam fitted to conform around the keel and ribs. On top of this I
use Spenco Jelly made by Trico Sports 800 473-7705 (talk to Paul). Cost should
be about $20 for a sheet 18x18x1/4. If you want to feel it go to your bike shop
as they have these seats. The only way to keep it in place would be to make a
material seat cover which goes over the material and draw strings thight holding
it to the base of the seat. This material is really goofey but seems to feel
good on the bum. The problem is that it is sticky to the touch but won't stay
stuck to another material such as the closed foam base discribed above. It is
very strong though and it feels very heavy but it floats. I have experimentd
with 1/2" material and find that 1/4" material might be thick enough. I'll try
it soon. Anyway, I sometimes wonder if there is such a seat or material which
will feel good to the bum and back and keep your legs from going to sleep...
Maybe this is just something we have to get used to or develop a conditioning
too. I guess some of our Baidarka forefathers paddled on their knees. Now
thats a tough position to be in for more than 5 minutes....
Sure would like your input....
Thanks,
Craig Kelford
