Garry,
Amen to becoming one with the kayak. It seems as though one must experiment anf
outfit the kayak for an individual's body and also his brain. I'm wondering if
there is such a thing as a one size fits all device for seating. As you
probibly know most white water boats come with a basic seat and then you add or
subtract material to your comfort/support.
Anyway, my feet always start to go to sleep after 1/2 hour. This seems to be
the case no mater what seat i use. I have taken a self inflating camping pillow
along and let it inflate under my legs and this seemed to help somewhat. "Be
careful not to get stuck incase you flip.... I had thought about an inflatable
bladder, such is is a car lumbar pad, to go up and down to change your position
but havn't tried it yet. I'm presently building a 1/4 inch foam platform for
the bottom of my kayak. This is two layers thick. First layer goes
longitudinally (sp) between the keel and stringers 1&2. There are four pieces
which fit this area two on a side. Then I'm gluing a 1/4 inch piece of foam
(all closed foam) on top. It is made so that the bottom pieces will slide under
the station tubing and thus be fixed down but removable. Hope it works. I then
am going to make another seat to go on top of this base. I will try to
encapcilate (sp) the Spenco on top. We'll see. I still havn't found anything
to be more comfortable a back rest than another self inflating camping pillow
placed between my back and the combing. Necke makes a plastic 1/16 inch seat
back attached to the side of the kayak (in my case a lashed in place piece of
aluminum sheet) it will pivot on screws. I will try this next.
Getting back to sleepy feet. It seems as though this is not as much a problem
after a couple of hours. Maybe because I have settled in and am unconsciously
moving about more.

Oh well, we keep on trying as did the Aleutes. It took them thousands of years
to get us where we are now....

Good luck my friend,
