The Goto Reto?

We paddled there in the 1970's. At that time, the junk and flotsam on their
beaches was impressive. The Japanese tended to treat the ocean as a work
area rather than a recreational one. Much more polluted than our coast
(Washington/BC). It was nonetheless a great trip because the people were
incredibly gracious in a way that I have never encountered elsewhere.

Japan labors under a burden of marked overpopulation which is hard to get
around although one applauds their efforts.
