My Brinck Baidarka, also in fir, with willow ribs and canvas skin is about
42 pounds.
Probably the biggest saving now you're committed to fir for the major
components will be skin and paint - as little as possible of each!
Though 42 pounds isn't heavy by most standards, I normally use a little
trolley to wheel my kayak to and from the water. The tough bit is getting
it on and off the car roof, though if you can be bothered you might rig up
an extension to one of the roof bars to let you lift one end up at a time.

Incidentally you'll LOVE the boat once you've finished it, though you'll
probably tire of explaining the bow shape to people who ask . . .
