Spruce is lighter albeit more costly.  If weight is your primary 
concern I would make the stringers, keelson etc of spruce.  If weight 
is your primary concern SPRUCE is where it is at.  You still have a 
bunch more wood to add to your boat... I would continue with spruce 
if it is available.
I would skip the willow ribs and go with steam bent white oak 5/8 
inch by 1/4 inch.
